It’s not possible for TOR to refine crude in the next three months – Energy Expert

Anger At TOR As New Board Members List Drop
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The newly appointed Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery, Mr. Kofi Mocumbi Tagoe is hopeful the refinery will resume refining crude in the next three months.

The 45,000 barrel per stream day facility has been idle for several years and an attempted by the government to revive it has failed multiple times due to a lack of transparency in the selection process a strategic partner.

It is not yet clear the strategy the new MD will be adopting to turn the refinery around, however, speaking to the Press on Tuesday, during the visit of the Minister of state at the Energy Ministry, Hon. Herbert Krapa, the MD stated categorically that in the next three months, TOR is going to get a letter.

“We are going to start our plant. We are going to get the Crude Distillation Unit(CDU) started and functional”.

In an interview on Plan B Fm’s ‘Ebaanosen’ show hosted by Ohene Kinnah on Wednesday, July 24 2024, a renowned Energy Expert, Mr. Sampson Addae stated clearly that, it is impossible for TOR to start refining crude in the next three months.

“President Nana Akufo-Addo was the one who commissioned Sentuo oil refinery while TOR is abandoned. If a private oil refinery is fully working, why can’t a whole refinery for a country like Ghana not operating ? Tema Oil Refinery has now given it tanks to Sentuo to serve as it tank farm. TOR could have created job opportunities to most of the youths, it could have given the country betumi for road tiling, the country could have had fertilizer after refining the crude but leaders has neglected it” he indicated.

It is not possible for Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to start refining crude in the next three months as the newly appointed Managing Director said but rather at least six months” he added.
