The Adenta branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has apprehended a young woman for allegedly abusing her nine-year-old nephew and inflicting injuries on him as a result of severe beatings.

According to a report by Edhub on X, the nine-year-old victim, identified as Nhyira Ohene Owiredu, sustained injuries to his back and head.

A video shared by the X account also showed personnel of DOVVSU escorting the suspect into a car following her subsequent arrest.

The young victim was also captured in the video with bruises to his back, showing the scars of the extent of the physical assault on him.

Additional details said that the young boy had relocated from Kasoa, where he lived with his mother, to Adenta, to live with his auntie, who is now the main suspect in the case.

The account by Edhub said that the suspect reportedly gave false information to the victim’s mother that her son was happy with her and that he had been enrolled in a new school.

“After several days there, the aunt allegedly informed the family that Nhyira was happy living with her and that she had even enrolled him in a new school and paid for private lessons.

“However, her intentions were different, as she reportedly used the boy for her own work activities, and when Nhyira failed to meet her demands, he was subjected to torture,” the tweet said.

The tweet added that through some concerned neighbours who noticed the abuse of the boy, the matter was reported to DOVVSU, who proceeded to make the arrest.
