Why is it that everyone wants to go to Parliament? – Asantehene questions Speaker

‘You Are The Reason Why Akufo-Addo Is Reckless’ – Kevin Taylor ‘Blasts’ Otumfuo Over E-levy Comments

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed concerns about the strong desire of many individuals to become Members of Parliament.

During a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Sunday, June 30, 2024, the Asantehene raised questions about the motivations behind the eagerness to join Parliament.

He noted the extreme measures some people are willing to take, such as insults and physical attacks.

“Why is it that everyone wants to go to Parliament? What is there that people will beat others and insult people just to go to Parliament? This is something that you have to pay attention to,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu IIsaid.

He pointed out the unrealistic promises made by certain parliamentary candidates, emphasizing that MPs do not have budgets to fulfill such promises.

“As an MP, you don’t even have a budget, so why make promises to fix roads and other things that you know you cannot deliver?”

Bagbin is currently on a three-day official visit to the Ashanti Region as part of a nationwide tour commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Fourth Republic.
