Concerned residents of Tema Community three and youth of Tema West have organized a peaceful demonstration led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), parliamentary candidate of the Tema West Constituency James Enu in protestation against the sale of land near PV Obeng Roundabout.

The residents clad in red, chanted and sung to back home their displeasure at the alleged indiscriminate sale of lands by the NPP government.

Speaking to Plan B News’ Boakye Emmanuel during the protest, Lawyer James Enu accused the NPP of indiscriminate selling of lands to their cronies to in the constituency.

“This land, which has been a part of our community’s fabric for over three decades, has never been a subject of controversy or dispute. It has always been a symbol of community unity and progress, hosting various social and religious events. However, under the current NPP government, this land is being sold off to a private investor who is NPP without any regard for the community’s interests or concerns” he stated

Speaking to journalists during the demonstration, residents called on the government and its appointees to halt the incessant, “reckless” sale and exploitation of lands in the area.

“This reckless sale is a clear case of exploitation, and we will not stand by and watch our community resources being plundered. For generations, this land has served as a recreational center, park, wedding reception venue, event space, and a sacred space for three churches in the area – SDA, Amazing Grace, and Global Evangelical. We cannot stand idly by while this vital community resource is taken away from us. We demand an immediate halt to the sale of this land and a respect for the rights of our community. We call on all community members to join us in this fight against the exploitation of our community resources. We will not be silenced or intimidated. We will continue to speak out gainst this injustice until our voices are heard and our demands are met”

They also accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP), parliamentary candidate for Tema West Constituency, Nana Boakye of colluding with the Managing Director of Tema Development Corporation (TDC), Alice Ofori Atta who’s the sister of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta of masterminding the sale of lands in the Tema Metropolis.

“Our investigations have revealed that the NPP candidate for Tema West, Nana Boakye, and Alice Ofori Atta, the Managing Director of TDC and sister to Ken Ofori Atta, are the masterminds behind this land sale. We, the residents of Tema Community Three and the youth of Tema West, are outraged and will resist this sale with every means possible. They have sold the Children’s Park at Community Five, sold the market at Community Five too and they keep selling lands like confetti and we will fight this. We demand of Nana Boakye, Alice Ofori-Atta and TDC to desist and halt this sale immediately and now. We will not be silenced or intimidated. We will resist this oppressors rule in regards to this matter. We will continue to speak out against this injustice until our voices are heard and our demands are met”
