Suspend auction of PBC properties: Workers demand

Suspend auction of PBC properties: Workers demand
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Workers of the Produce Buying Company (PBC) have appealed to the Management to halt the auction of the company’s assets.

According to them, the auctioning of the properties is not the solution to the problems faced by the company currently.

A release from the Management of PBC indicates that after successful valuation exercise by Intercity STC Limited, Management has engaged Messrs. Obuoba Mart, a licensed auctioneer in the next step of disposal of the earlier listed unserviceable vehicles, trailers and obsolete equipment grounded in some regional workshops.

The exercise, which will be carried out in the space of one week has already taken place in Tema and Kumasi. Other areas yet to be covered is Dunkwa-On-Offin, Enchi, Awaso/Essam and Hohoe.

Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9fm in Kumasi with Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin, some of the workers of PBC, were not happy about the decision of the Management.

They petitioned the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo, to stop Management of the company from auctioning their properties.

Akim Oda District Manager of PBC, Frederick Kwame Boachie and National Depo Chairman of PBC, Frederick Opoku Sefa, who were in the studio described the action of the Management as unfortunate.

They have registered their displeasure over what they described as poor management of the company. They say current work conditions are appalling and salary delays are consistent.

They called on the government to act swiftly to address their concerns. They said the current management is “short of ideas, lacks vision and foresight.”

“We are against the auction because the company is not on its proper mandate and therefore it is necessary for us to kick against their decision for the government to know the state in which the company is”.

“Where we have gotten to, if the government does not come in, the company will collapse,” they said.

They have threatened to storm the premises of Golden Bean Hotel, subsidiary of PBC to block anyone from working since that’s the place Management of PBC is enjoying from the profits of the company.

They said for the past ten months, they have not received any salary and many of them have died because of the current economic hardship.
