1 Nigerian, 2 Ghanaians Arrested Over New Voters ID Card

A Nigerian nationality by name Emmanuel who had in his possession, the new Ghana Voter ID card has been arrested by some personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) from the Aflao Sector Command.

According to a press release, the suspect was arrested when he illegally attempted to enter Ghana through the main Aflao border on July 6, 2020. The release which was signed by Assistant Inspector, Felix Klu-Adjei further pointed out that the suspect was stopped at the border by the GIS personnel who are stationed at Ketu South in the Volta region and after interrogation, the Voter ID card was found on him.

He is said to have failed to explain how he came by the Voter ID card when quizzed except to state that he lives with one Jerry Azametsi, a native of Aflao, and his wife, Abigail Tagbor. Pushed further to explain how he got the got the Voter ID card, the Nigerian narrated that it was Jerry and his wife who persuaded him to register and added that they even stood as guarantors for him during his registration process.

Azametsi who was invited to aid in the GIS personnel investigate the man, confessed to helping the Nigerian who resides in Togo to register for the Ghana Voter ID card. He told the arresting GIS personnel that all he did was to encourage his Nigerian friend to take advantage of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) registration exercise to get registered.

Concluding, the released pointed out that the Aflao Sector Command of the GIS has handed the Nigerian, Emmanuel Philip together with the two other suspects, Jerry Azametsi and his wife, Abigail Tagbor, who are Ghanaians to the Aflao District Police for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
