Unemployment, Poverty and Inequality; A threat to Ghana’s peace and stability – NCCE

Unemployment, Poverty and Inequality; A threat to Ghana’s peace and stability – NCCE
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Tema West National Commission for Civic Education NCCE director Mr. Fidel Bortey has stated that Unemployment, Poverty, and inequality undermining Ghana’s peace and stability as we are prepare for the 2024 general elections.

Ghana is facing several security challenges including very critical yet hidden security threats that often do not get the audience policy circles but which has the potential to affect the long term peace, security, stability and development of Ghana, which is the huge unemployment, poverty, and inequality in the country

Speaking on Plan B FM’s morning show NKOSUONSEM hosted by Obidehye Kogi Sekyi, Mr. Bortey explained that, it is fair to say that Ghanaian governments both past and present have shown a disproportionate lack of understanding of the security implications of having a large army of people who are poor, unemployed and marginalized in the country. Many policymakers in Ghana including members of Parliament, the Executive, and top bureaucrats of the various ministries and departments do not consider poverty, unemployment, and inequality as major security problems, and policies have often tended to scratch the surface of these problems rather than getting to the bottom.

He argued that due to the level of unemployment, poverty, and inequality, the youth could be easily influenced to do things to jeopardize the peace and serenity of the country especially as we are preparing for the 2024 general elections.
