GPL: Steve Mukwala’s brace help Kotoko to a 2-1 defeat against Hearts

Steven Mukwala scored twice to inspire Asante Kotoko to a 3-1 comeback win over Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The victory takes the Porcupine Warriors to 6th position on the league log after 14 games.

It was Hearts of Oak who took the lead through Linda Mtange’s beautiful header during the 39th minute.

But Oppong drew Kotoko level with his second Premier League goal of the season six minutes later before halftime.

The second half began in the same way that the first ended with an end-to-end style, although no real chances were being created as they were prior to the interval.

But it was Kotoko who went ahead with a 59th minute strike from Steven Mukwala.

Just nine minutes after snatching the lead, the Ugandan international then scored again to make it 3 for the Warriors.

The Phobians truly looked dead and buried after Kotoko’s third goal but battled back into the game to reduce the deficit through Martin KariKari, who came from the bench.

Hearts of Oak are now winless in their last three games in all competitions. They suffered a goal defeat to Aduana Stars before Sunday’s Super Clash.

For Kotoko, the result is a major boost ahead of their game against another Accra side, Great Olympics at the same venue.

Hearts will also battle Nations FC at the Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. The result leaves them in 9th place with 16 points.
