A horrific accident that happened on the Sunyani-Berekum Highway on Monday has six confirmed deaths.

According to information acquired by the Ghanaian Times, the accident happened when a taxicab with the licence plate GT 5591-12 travelling towards Nsoatre struck a salon car with the licence plate AS 253-22, which was travelling in the other direction, head-on.

The driver of the taxicab and the other five passengers perished instantly on the scene, and the sole occupant of the salon car, the other driver, passed away while undergoing hospital treatment.

Although the exact cause of the fatal accident is unknown, information that have been gathered suggest that both cars were travelling at high speed when they collided, resulting in the catastrophe.

Eyewitness accounts state that the deceased had to be removed from the wrecked automobiles at the accident scene by police and members of the Ghana National Fire Service.

For preservation, the deceased have been placed in the mortuary of the Berekum Holy Family Hospital.

The Ghanaian Times was informed by a police source that the case was being investigated.
