*Car theft: ways to use photocopy documents of your unregistered vehicle – public told*

Chief Inspector Morgan with the Tema Community 2 District Police Command has advised the general public, especially vehicle owners on Plan B FM’s morning show NKOSUONSEM, to always keep the original documents of their vehicle at home and use the photocopy of their newly acquired unregistered vehicles to enhance search if stolen.

He told Nana Yaw Abrompah that, the use of DV and DP plates is governed by the Road Traffic Act, 683/04 as amended by Act 761/08, and the Road Traffic Regulations 2012 L I 2180.

“DV stands for Defective Vehicle while DP stands for Drive from Port. Both are temporary plates meant to assist the users in carrying out a temporary activity, regarding the usage of the vehicle. The DP is valid for ten days and comes with a log book that contains entries concerning the movement of the vehicle. It must be carried at all times by the driver. The DV is valid for twelve calendar months and may be used on different vehicles at different times. Just like the DP, the DV also comes with a log book which should contain entries regarding the movement of the vehicle and particulars of the driver. The logbook must be carried at all times” he explained

According to regulation 45 of the Road Traffic Act, the following are the persons or reasons why the DP and DV plates may be used, he added.
