Importers stranded at Tema Harbor as port authorities seize 100 containers of diapers

Importers stranded at Tema Harbor as port authorities seize 100 containers of diapers

Information gathered by Plan B News indicate that about 100 paid-duty containers containing diapers have been seized by the port authorities for no reason.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, an importer on PlanB FM morning show with Nana Yaw Abrompah, reported that, the importers have been stranded because their goods have not been released to them by port authorities after paying for their duty leading to demurrage.

He said they are being frustrated by the authorities when importers want to clear their goods,

” If you go to the port authorities to clear your goods they will redirect you to go to the Food and Drug Authority and will also ask you to go back to the port authorities making the work frustrating” he added

He also alleged that they are refusing to clear their goods for them because there is a Chinese company producing diapers in Ghana that’s why they don’t want to clear their imported diapers for them.

“If that is the case they should have informed us not to import diapers into the country as they have been doing to other goods” he added
