The death has been announced of the President of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II.

This was announced on Tuesday, July 25 by the Apumasu Komfour, Nana Kwesi Apraku.

Nana Kwesi Apraku told Sunyani’s royal families at a gathering at the palace.

The announcement of the death of the Paramount Chief of Sunyani had created tension in the area as it was unclear which of the families will take up that responsibility as custom demands

The Apumasu Komfour took up this responsibility after gathering all the royal families.

He led a parade of palace guards on some principal streets of Sunyani shortly after the announcement.

The late Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II had stirred controversy in 2015 after he declared an 80 percent win for then President John Dramani Mahama in the following year’s presidential elections.

The then Brong Ahafo Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took on the Paramount Chief by condemning him for engaging in partisan politics against the 1992 Constitution.

This led to the suspension of all NPP officials including then Presidential Candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from the Sunyani Traditional Council.

The matter was resolved amicably before the 2016 elections, which saw a massive victory for Mr Akufo-Addo.

The NPP had patched up with Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II before his untimely death.
