The second edition of Plan B FM inter-community soccer challenge has been launched today Friday July 7, 2023 at the forecourt of Plan B 104.5 FM.
The tournament, will be held on the 22nd July to 13th August 2023, with 32 teams set to battle it out for the ultimate prize.
The wining team will take home a mega trophy, medals and a cash sum of money. The second placed team will have a silver trophy, silver medals as well as a cash sum of money.
The third placed team will get bronze medals and a cash prize as their prize for participating and emerging third in the tournament.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Free Minds Communication Company Limited, owners of Plan B FM, Dr. Martin Asare Aniagyei stated that, this year’s tournament promises to introduce more features to give more playing pleasure.
He added that the maiden edition offered a 50-minute playing time with 10 minutes break.
“For this second edition, we will be testing your real soccer competencies including stamina and staying power. We are playing a full 90 minutes with 10 minutes break. We will be separating the men from the boys!” He indicated
The special guest for the occasion was Mr. Gabriel Collins Kwao, vice chairman for the Greater Accra Regional football Association.
He thanked management of Plan B FM for their enormous support for grassroots football.
He advised the teams to take the tournament seriously which he believed could open doors for most of their players to play at the high level.
Present and also chairman for the event, was former Moldovan side FC Olympia Baltif coach Emmanuel Aidoo who bemoaned the neglect of Colt’s football which has produced a lot of talent including himself. He stated that the dwindling state of inter- schools’ sports has contributed significantly to the sinking state of Ghana’s sports development.
“Neglect of Colt’s football which has produced a lot of talent including myself in the country has been abandoned, and also the dwindling state of inter- schools’ sports has contributed significantly to the sinking state of our sports development in the country.The decline in Ghana’s football can be attributed to many factors, one of which is poor management and a lack of investment in the sport. Funds are not pumped into our clubs, and when they are, they are often not utilized optimally, leading to a lack of proper training facilities, equipment, and coaching staff. Additionally, there has been a significant lack of opportunities for young and aspiring football players to showcase their talents and sharpen their skills” he stated
He also said he believes the inter- community soccer gala will provide the platform for the players to showcase their talent to the watching world.
Present also was renowned football coach Leonard Morgan who will provide technical assistance for the tournament expressed his excitement to be a part of the tournament.
He promised more talents will be unearth when the competition takes off.
Winners from the first edition Bankuman FC expressed optimism of retaining their title. They also revealed that, through the inter-community soccer gala, a host of their players have had the opportunity to travel outside the country to play for other clubs.
They added that, they invested parts of the money they won from the last tournament to help in the development of the community by organizing health work excersise to create awareness for a healthy living among community members.
