A commercial passenger bus, popularly known as ‘trotro’, with registration number WR-757-23 has collided into a mechanic shop on the Fijai – Takoradi road in the Western region after a failed attempt to overtake a long vehicle.

The unfortunate incident occurred at about 10am on Thursday, June 15, 2023, opposite Sammar Lodge in Takoradi.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Beach Newsroom, “the passenger bus was on a top speed in a bid to overtake the long vehicle. But upon reaching the junction, the long vehicle took a left turn leaving the trotro no option than to collide into the mechanic shop.”

He added that, “although the bus was full of passengers no one including the driver suffered any injury.”

The driver and his conductor have fled the scene.

Aida, a passenger who also spoke to Beach Newsroom said, “the driver tried overtaking the long vehicle. I think one guy got injured in the shop. We kept advising him about his over-speeding but he didn’t listen to us.”

The Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate, (MTTD), of the Ghana Police service has commenced investigations into the accident.
