By a unanimous decision, the Court of Appeal last Tuesday halted the suspension of Lawyer Kwame Fosu-Gyeabour.

Until the decision of the Appeals Court, the lawyer was serving a suspension handed him by the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council pending the determination of the appeal against the decision to suspend him from legal practice which took effect from April 20, 2023.

The court, in its ruling, held that Lawyer Kwame Fosu-Gyeabour would suffer irremediable injustice if he is to serve his sentence of suspension pending the determination of his appeal.

The lawyer had on April 20, 2023 been suspended by the General Legal Council from practicing as a lawyer for twelve months for breach of Rule 2(2) of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rule, 1960 (LL, 613) which requires a lawyer to uphold dignity and high standing of his profession.

In view of the action, the Judicial Secretary issued a notice to the public about the suspension of Lawyer Kwame Fosu-Gyeabour as a legal practitioner and also banning him from entering his chamber during the period of the suspension.

Not satisfied with the action, the affected lawyer filed an appeal to the Appeals Court.

Loyal clients of the lawyer, from all walks of life had besieged the court to support their legal counsel on May 23, 2023.

Following the favourable verdict, the clients sang songs of praise to God, some recalling how supportive the lawyer had been to them.

The jubilant crowd followed him through the Supreme Court premises to his chambers at West Ridge.

Excited about the show of love from his clients, Lawyer Fosu-Gyeabour expressed gratitude to the supportive crowd and thanked God for His mercies.
