The swift action taken by the police in Berekum, located in the Bono region, prevented a 24-year-old driver from falling victim to a mob attack.

The enraged crowd had nearly lynched Christopher Kyeremeh, the suspect, after he collided with three tricycles while driving an unregistered Toyota Camry, resulting in the immediate death of one person and injuring six others.

By the time the police arrived at the scene, the mob had already set the Camry ablaze and subjected the suspect to severe beatings.

According to an anonymous police source, the incident occurred around 09:00 hours on Sunday, May 21, 2023. The body of the deceased, identified as Gloria Owusu, 17 years old, has been transferred to the Berekum Holy Family Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

The remaining six victims are currently receiving treatment and are admitted to the same hospital.

The source, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the suspect was brought before the Berekum Magistrate Court on Monday, May 22, 2023. He has been remanded in prison custody and is scheduled to appear again on June 2, 2023.
