The director of Aid-Life Herbal Research Hospital Dr. Eric Amoah has said that chronic kidney diseases include conditions that damage the kidney and decrease their ability to keep it healthy by filtering wastes from the blood.
Speaking on ‘Apomuden Fie’ a weekly health show with Ohene Addo on Plan B Fm, Dr Amoah said, If kidney disease worsens, wastes can build to high levels in our blood and cause sickness.
“You may develop complications like, high blood pressure which occurs when your blood pressure against the walls of your blood vessels increases. If uncontrolled or poorly controlled, high blood pressure can be a leading cause of heart attacks, strokes, and chronic kidney disease. Also, chronic kidney disease can cause high blood pressure” he said
He also indicated that diabetes and high blood pressure, or hypertension, are responsible for two-thirds of chronic kidney disease cases, diabetes occurs when your blood sugar remains too high. Over time, unmanaged blood sugar can cause damage to many organs in your body, including the kidneys and heart and blood vessels, nerves, and eyes.
Dr. Amoah stressed that excessive intake of alcohol, red meat, salty foods, and bad eating habits are also prime factors that could lead to kidney problems.
He then advised the general public that regular check-ups of their blood pressure, abstinence from excessive alcohol intake, adopting good eating habits, and exercise are the best ways to prevent kidney problems.
