A Ghanaian man who worked as a cleaner in New Zealand, Daniel Otess, has been murdered.

Otess was found dead in an open-air car park on City Rd, near Symonds St. in Auckland, New Zealand.

His body was discovered beside a car in the early hours of Sunday, March 12th 2023.

Police said the Ghanaian appeared to have been assaulted and died before he was found.

The Ghanaian community in New Zealand have been mourning Otess, who was described as “lovely and caring”. He reportedly worked as a night cleaner, going into shops after closing time to work.

“He will be missed by the whole community, he was a part of us,” a member of the Ghana Association of New Zealand, Bright Duah, told the NZ Herald.

“I feel very sad and shocked. He was my friend, a very very good person. He is not a person who got into fights.

“I hope they catch the person who did this. There needs to be justice.”

Duah revealed that Otess left behind two daughters.

“He was a lovely and caring family man. He had recently taken his family to Ghana to meet his parents there.”

“I never ever thought that such a thing could happen to him,” another Ghanaian, Abudu Shaibu told the Herald.

“I’ve never seen him in any confrontation with anyone, especially during my stay in New Zealand…”

Police have issued a wanted notice for a woman accused of killing Daniel Otess, Whitney Iraia-Burgess.

Authorities are appealing to the public for help, asking for sightings of Iraia-Burgess and her grey Honda Accord.

“Additionally, police are also seeking sightings of a grey Honda Accord, believed to be linked to Whitney, however, this may now have different number plates.
