NE/R: Mamprugu youth chase out Regional Minister
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Hundreds of youth of Mamprugu in the North East Region have chased their Regional Minister out of the chief’s palace over what they described as his failure to support their course anytime he is needed.

According to the youth, the Minister has failed to support their brothers and sisters in the Bawku area in their ongoing difficulties, hence, there is no need for him to be part of their activities.

Some of the youth were heard shouting, “…during our homecoming celebration, you were here saying we and them [other faction] are one, so we should bury our differences.

“Do you know the number of family members we lost? What have you done to support us? Nothing, and you are here again. We don’t need you here,” accord I’m NG to Accra base Class 91.3 FM

Another youth quizzed: “Who even asked him to come here? Is he part of us? We don’t need him here. Since our difficulties, he has never said anything positive or even helped us. So, why would we entertain him here.”

The Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria, was at the chief’s palace in Nalerigu in the early hours of Wednesday, February 15, 2023, to render his traditional support to the ongoing enskinment of a new Mamprugu Naa for the Bawku Traditional area, but to his surprise, encountered the irate youth’s riot.

The Minister was rescued through the rapid intervention of the security forces present.

However, the enskinment process later went on well without any disruptions.

The overlord for the Mamprugu Traditional area, Naa Bohigu Abdulai Mahama Sheriga, then successfully enskinned Naa Seidu Abayari as the new chief for the people of Mamprugu in the Bawku area.

Naa Seidu Abayari now called Naa Kuliga II who is a teacher by profession, is expected to bring the needed development and peace to the people of the area
