Too Much power to the President affecting Ghana – NCCE

The Tema Metropolitan Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) madam Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu together with Mr. Fedil Bortey also the director of Tema West Municipal Assembly today Friday 27th January 2023 on Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM when speaking to Ohene Addo on the topic “30 Years of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. Gains, shortfalls, and the role of NCCE in our Democratic Dispensation”.

She explained that too many powers given to the president by the constitution are affecting the country in so many divers.

“let’s take the calling of the finance minister’s removal from office for instance, if not for too many powers given to the president why would he still keep the minister at the post till now”? she asks.

“if all the powers are given to one person to appoint ministers, Directors, board members, and even appoints to very sensitive positions, and if all these people are to take action if a government official if they break the law, can they take action as the law requires or demand”?

She stated that the constitution had outlived its usefulness and for that reason needed reforms and believed that as many organizations are calling for the reforms will soon be addressed.

She explained that intellectuals in the country privately agreed to a thorough review of the constitution the call by most citizens to amend or reform the constitution is a call that those who have the power to do must not ignore,she stress
