Fuel hikes: Drivers join calls for Akufo-Addo to resign

Brace Yourselves For Fuel Increment In February – IES

Members of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) have joined calls for President Akufo-Addo to resign following the harsh economic conditions.

The drivers say the President has disappointed them and are therefore calling for his head.

The drivers in a statement said Ghana’s economy has tumbled down lower than it has ever done in the history of this Fourth Republic.

“The prevailing economic condition can solely be attributed to the abysmal performance of the finance minister,” the statement said.

However, the drivers said they are startled by President Akufo-Addo’s decision to keep his finance minister at post even at the rebellion of his own party men; the majority in parliament.

The President’s incessant on keeping the Finance Minister according to the drivers has confirmed their long held argument that President Akufo-Addo is incompetent.

“We thought the President’s plea would have caused his government to improve the prevailing perilous times but rather it has been the contrary as petrol prices have been increased for three consecutive times in less than a week. At the moment diesel is selling at GHC 23.49 at the pumps.

“Even so, we cannot watch this country roll into the ditch and as drivers and movers of the nation we are demanding for the President to resign with immediate effect,” the statement noted.

“This is as a result of the precarious economic situation he is superintending,” it added.

Should the President fail to resign, “we are sending a caution to block any route in the country he’ll decide to use in the event he embarks on any tour,” they threatened.

The drivers said the President has failed to heed their call to have the petrol prices checked.

“Our caution, strike and demonstration have all been underestimated by the President and even when he has promised to have petrol prices [reduced] during a meeting with the GPRTU executives, we have subsequently witnessed three increments.”

The latest fuel increment the drivers said has solidified their notion that the President has poorly performed and needs to resign.

They called on Ghanaians to bear with them as the recent fare increment is not something they desire but a move to help keep them in business.
