Malawi: Parliament Adjust Upwards Retirement Age For Judges

Study Reveals Ghanaian Judges Are Among Most Corrupt And Politically Biased In Africa
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Parliament On Tuesday passed the Courts Amendment Bill which among others seeks to increase the retirement age of Judges from 65 to 70 years.

The Bill received massive resistance from the Opposition bench with other MPs saying the same should be the case with other Civil servants.

Others spoke against the Bill saying it takes off the opportunity for the youths who would be qualified for the position.

The Bill has also opened doors for the establishment of the Financial Crimes Division of the High Court that will have jurisdiction to hear financial crimes.
