A three-month sensitisation campaign has been launched by the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) to create awareness of the Operation paint your building Campaign after which enforcement of the bye-law will be intensified.
Paragraph two of the STMA bye-laws on maintenance of premises 2017 states, that a household or owner or occupier of premises within the Metropolis shall keep the house clean.
The Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah disclosed this at a formal launch of the painting of a house in the Metropolis.
He said the campaign is targeted at the entire metropolis, but buildings along the roads earmarked for reconstruction this year will be considered.
He also said the campaign will also address the issue of abandoned, uncompleted and dangerous structures that are in a state of disrepair.
Hon Okyere Darko added that Assembly will be compelled to demolish such buildings and surcharge the expenses to be incurred in the exercise to the owners if they fail to comply with the directives.
He said, “As part of efforts to make Sekondi-Takoradi one of the most beautiful cities in the country, we passed the regulation in December last year to enforce the regulation.”
“Buildings particularly ceremonial roads such as the Nkroful to Apollo Highway, Takroadi-Accra Highway and Takoradi to Kwesimintsim Highway,” he added.
