The immediate Chief Executive of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong’s bid to be enstooled as the paramount chief of the Offinso Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region has seen rejection by members of the Asona family in the area.
Recent media report suggest that plans are far advanced for the former GNPC boss to be enstooled as a paramount chief to succeed the area’s chief, Nana Wiafe Akenten III who passed some time ago.
Speaking to Plan-B FM, Nana Afriyie, spokesperson for the Asona Akonkodease family, noted that they have vehemently opposed the choice of Dr. K. K. Sarpong as the next paramount chief because he is not a royal and does not hail from the area. The spokesperson continued that it is out of place for DR. K. K. Sarpong to be enstooled as a paramount chief for the area.
He wondered why the queen-mother of the area Nana Ama Serwaa has failed to disclose why she is allegedly interested in seeing the enstoolment of Dr. K. K. Sarpong as the next paramount chief of the area.
According to him they have expressed their displeasure over the matter and hope that the right thing will be done to ensure that peace prevail in the area. He told Tema base radio station Plan-B FM that they will continue to oppose the intent to enstool the former GNPC boss by persons who have continued to push that agenda out there in the public domain.
Concluding, he noted that it is not true that Dr. K. K. Sarpong is from the area and therefore cannot be a paramount chief.
