Mental Health Is Heavily Caused By Social Environment- Mental Health Officer

Mental Disorder has been on the table of most household over the years and costing happiness of most people in Ghana.

Nana Akua Okontie had an eloquent interview with Miss Dorathy Attuah- Asante Unit Head Psychiatric Department, Tema PolyClinic and Mr Wisdom Kumako Mental Health Officer Tema Polyclinic on Plan B Fm’s Apomudenfie and Together they made a clarion call on Guardians to protect their wards from controversies arround the society because most health problem reported to the hospital are traced to the society the person was brought up.

They explained that mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

They said that there are 2 factors that cause mental Health illness one is not treatable and the other is treatable, the untreatable ones are genetic that is mental health that was inherited from family , some disorder affects some particular gender and some of the treatable one’s is mostly caused by social environment

They stated some examples of mental illness as
• Anxiety disorders. …
• Behavioural and emotional disorders in children. …
• Bipolar affective disorder. …
• Depression. …
• Dissociation and dissociative disorders. …
• Eating disorders. …
• Obsessive compulsive disorder. …
• Paranoia.

They concluded that mental health when traced must be given serious attention and also visit the psychiatric for appropriate treatment.
