One Person Feared Dead During Shooting Incident At Bawku

One Person Feared Dead During Shooting Incident At Bawku

A yet-to-be-identified man is feared dead after he was shot by some unknown assailants in Bawku, in the Upper East Region.

Citi News sources say the deceased, a horse trader residing in Natiga had gone to Widana, another community, to bring one of his horses to Bawku when the incident occurred.

He was allegedly trailed by some unknown people on a motorbike and shot dead at Konsinze.

After the unfortunate incident, there were other sporadic gunshots in Bawku.

Calm has, however, returned to the area following security intervention.

In the meantime, at least two persons have been arrested for further investigations.

Recent ensions in Bakwu prompted the ban on motorbikes, as well as a curfew on the entire township and a ban on smock-wearing.

Several persons have been wounded in the violence in the town, in addition to a few deaths, including that of a police officer..

Recent tensions can be traced to December 27, 2021, when there was gunfire in parts of the town after attempts to perform the final funeral rites of a Chief who died about 41 years ago.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo is urging the feuding factions in the Bawku chieftaincy dispute to cease-fire and dialogue.

The President says resources spent in maintaining law and order in Bawku could be used to develop the area.
