The Ghana Association of medical laboratory scientists calls on Government to immediately set up and commission a governing Board to give life to the national blood service Act 2020( Act 1042)
Doctor Dennis Adu Gyasi public Relations officer for GAML in an interview with Bohyeba Afriyie on plan B Fm’s Ebanoosen indicated that the blood transmission policy suffers a lot of challenges and needs a governing body to empower it.
He said that the blood transmission policy suffers some challenges like, unavailability of funds to organize blood donation exercise etc.
He revealed that some donors take money from patients before donating their blood which must not be so because this might even cost the life of donor because of money he or she might be tempted to donate when he or she is not even well.
He added that the Act grants that blood is not sold to patients but just payment of processing fee.
“We are working on getting the National Health Insurance to cover processing fee as well so patients pay nothing for blood”. He said.
He concluded that Recirculation of blood and if all hospital systems connects there will be enough blood for all who need it.
