The Ministry of Trade and Industry says it will set up a committee to spearhead the drafting of policies to regulate the country’s cement industry.
According to the Ministry, the meeting has become necessary to ensure regulation of their activities and help develop a better cement production industry.
Deputy Trade and Industry Minister, Michael Okyere Baafi, briefed the media on the government’s plans in Koforidua.
He said the “government is also working with the cement manufacturers in the area of regulation of cement and even the development of the cement business in Ghana. The cement business is not regulated.”
Dr George Dawson chairman of the Chamber Of The Cement manufacturers has said that it’s being long overdue since they called for a regulatory body but their still very happy that finally they have being responded with a positive answer.
In an interview with Bohyeba Afriyie on plan B Fm’s Ebanoosen mr Dawson revealed that when production of cement started in Ghana there were only 3 companies but after some time they realized that a lot of people started venturing in to the manufacturing of cement which is very dangerous because the production of cement is very expensive so since there’s no regulatory body supervising, some companies will cut cost by mixing something very cheap for the market .
He added that another thing that excites them is the fact that they are part of the committee being set up.
He concluded that the new regulatory must see to it that all the bad nuts are sieved out of the good ones’s
