Public Health advocate Evelyn Ama Amposah in an interview with miss Akua konadu okontie explained periodontal disease.
She defined periodontal disease as A serious gum infection that damages gums and can destroy the jawbone.
She also said that Periodontitis is common but fairly preventable. The cause is usually poor oral hygiene. Periodontitis can lead to tooth loss. It’s a risk factor for heart and lung disease
She listed some of the symptoms as bad breath, toothache, bright red gums, loose teeth, receding gums, tender gums, or tooth loss
Also common: swelling or bleeding
She also described how to firstly aid yourself before visiting the hospital ,Treatments includes professionally cleaning the pockets around teeth to prevent damage to surrounding bone. She also said that Advanced cases may require surgery.
She concluded that periodontitis can kill if it becomes serious
