Govt Wants To Dupe Ghanaians Through E-Levy-Public Sector Workers

The Aggrieved Public Sector Workers-Ghana have broken the silence on the proposed E-Levy.

The group of Ghanaian workers are of the view that the levy is a way the government want to use to dupe Ghanaians.

According to them, although the government needs money to fund projects, the E-Levy should be an avenue since it is a way of stealing from the people.

“We are not oblivious of the fact that, government needs funds (taxes) to fund projects which has both direct and indirect benefits to Public Sector Workers but it does not provide the opportunity for government to equally dupe it citizens with double, triple and quadruple taxation.”

As part of measures to help address the issue they have also suggested for churches, lawyers to be taxed if we want to be self-reliant.

“It is about time the activities of churches and lawyers etc are taxed if we really want to be self-reliance. We equally know the roles these institutions play in our society but it is no secret that they operate fully and open as businesses and must be taxed. Even God himself recognises taxation and was ready to pay tax how much more those that claim to be working for him!

If government taxes it’s citizens this way, will he have the moral right to attack the internet fraudsters who are operating through similar modus operandi?”

To them, “A good law should be flexible and very easy going, on the people and so must our taxation system be. The imposition of the E-Levy will only discourage citizens from the much touted paperless or cashless system to the old analog system where huge sums of funds will be transferred manually with its own repercussions.

Jobs will be lost as many are those who have been employed as a results of the introduction of mobile money and other transfer systems.

A case study is the most commonest of all, Bank transfers which happens frequently just like water intake.

A transfer of a hundred thousand Ghana cedis will attract a whopping sum of one thousand Seven hundred and fifty Ghana cedis(1,750) whilst a transfer of one million cedis will attract the sum of seventeen thousand Ghana cedis(17,000) which is insane to any business man and will lead to other ways of achieving the same results other than the electronic transfer.

People will be devising means of evading taxes instead of paying to help develop the nation.

Government must be innovative, leadership by example and very minimal in wastage in order to look good before his citizens in times like this.”
