Ansah Kwame Charles as his Voters ID card identified him, has been held at the Old Tafo F-Line Police Station after he was caught in a pickpocketing incident at Old Tafo taxi rank last night. Kwame Ansah, according to Owusu Agyei, a taxi driver from Old Tafo taxi rank, was caught stealing Fifty-Nine Cedis (GH¢59) from one Akua Dagomba.
Akua Dagomba, a 31-year-old trader at the Old Tafo Railway market, was standing at the Old Tafo taxi rank when she felt someone touching her handbag. The handbag, which was wedged under Akua Dagomba’s left arm, was cut from beneath with a blade as Kwame Ansah tried stealing the valuables in the bag.
Akua held onto Kwame Ansah’s hand which was already in her handbag and that was when Kwame Ansah gave her a slap with his left hand. Kwame Ansah in an attempt to run accused Akua of cheating on him and kicked her on the floor before Akua was rescued by taxi drivers at the station.
Driver Owusu Agyei who witnessed the incident between Kwame Ansah and Akua Dagomba narrated that, Kwame Ansah had lied to them about his identity before his arrest. I saw his hands around the woman but I thought he was her husband or partner.
The way he was standing close to her, gave no doubt he was her man. The slap was what alerted me and that was when we found out he was a thief, Owusu Agyei said to the F-Line Police patrol team last night.
Kwame Ansah from the narration of the eyewitness, gave two slaps to Akua Dagomba before kicking her with his right leg. Akua sustained abdominal injuries but she was still able to defend herself after she was rescued by the taxi drivers.
He is a thief, he is a thief. He tried stealing from me. My bag, my bag, my bag, Akua Dagomba said in a mild tone before collapsing at the taxi rank last night.
Akua was taken to the hospital by the taxi drivers and is receiving treatment whiles Kwame Ansah is resting at Old Tafo F-Line Police Station. Kwame Ansah was handed to the Old Tafo police patrol team by the taxi drivers.
