The Executive Director of Africa Educational Watch, Mr. Kofi Asare have asserted that it is hypocrisy for government to ask Ghanaians to pay more taxes like UK yet are against accountability for the taxes we pay unlike UK.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, 14th November 2022 he said;
“Hypocrisy is when you claim Ghanaians should pay more taxes like UK for Accra to look like London, yet, you are against CSOs, MPs and journalists who question government profligacy and demand accountability for our taxes.
You get so angry when an MP asks the cost of our president flying a luxury jet regularly; and when CSOs question the outrageous cost of calculators, past questions, V8 for political appointees, you cringe.
You yourself are afraid to question wasteful and corrupt deals because your party is in power. If you do not change this attitude, e-levy will just pass like wind; and so will v-levy not fix your sanitation or road system.
Ask yourself whether the UK developed by citizens merely paying taxes and sleeping on accountability, defending profligacy, corruption because their party was in power?
Is that what the British told you? Let us change our attitude towards revenue accountability to get the best out of our taxes.”
