Cameroon overcame a stubborn Gambia 2-0 thanks to a Karl Toko Ekambi double in the first quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts had to come through a tricky last-16 tie against a plucky Comoros and faced another unfancied side in the form of Tom Saintfiet’s outfit, but displayed composure and control in a dominant performance throughout in Douala.
Gambia had already surpassed all expectations after reaching this stage in what is their first ever AFCON appearance, but failed to provide a shock upset and now bow out with their heads held high.
Antonio Conceicao’s Cameroon will face either Egypt or Morocco in the semi-final on Thursday.
