It was a stage of shock for Afua Benewaa Agyemang and her family as she was prevented from entering the funeral grounds of her late husband. Afua who arrived at the Oyoko family house at 3:30 on Saturday morning to perform her widowhood rites, was not only prevented from performing the rites for her late husband but was beaten and ridiculed in addition.
With claps, brooms, stones and warm water, the Oyoko family of the late Andrew Agyemang, destroyed the car of the wife Afua Agyemang before calling her names. Witch!! You have killed him, and wants to eat his corpse now, come and eat, the sisters of the late Andrew Agyemang repeatedly said to the wife after smashing her car windows.
Afua in tears was taken away from the funeral grounds in the company of her family as her car was abandoned on the streets of Nyatase; a residential community within the Ejisu Juabeng Municipal of the Ashanti Region. The brother of Afua Agyemang, Bismarck Ohene Agyei, refuted the claims of the Oyoko family and branded them as children with lost parents.
Who does these kinds of village things in this era? They are villagers with no moral training. Shameful women without mothers to give them common sense, Bismarck said after he took his sister to safety.
Bismarck according to him, was going to seek the police intervention in forcing the Oyoko family to pay for all the damages they had caused this morning, including the destruction of the car. Even if she had starved her husband to death, was it the best way to do things? Do we use wrong to settle wrong, Bismarck kept questioning the Oyoko family’s attitude towards them.
The Oyoko family of the late Andrew Agyemang had for whatever reason known to them, sacked the wife of their late brother from his burial without any justification, but rumours surrounding their actions confirmed that they had done that because of a confession. The late Andrew Agyemang was alleged to have confessed to his family that, his wife wasn’t taking care of him and was giving him troubles in the house.
A confession nobody has been able to prove, on which said the day the deceased made such confessions. Whom he made that confession to and witnesses to that confession, but the family relied on it, to sack the wife from the burial grounds this morning. Andrew Agyemang who died on 12 December 2021, was buried today without the presence of his wife and two children.
