On Thursday, the member of parliament for Assin Central Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong appeared before an Accra based high court to answer questions relating to an allegation he made against an investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. According to a US based Ghanaian journalist Kelvin Taylor, Kennedy Agyapong displayed a high level of ignorance in court hence his supporters should not be surprised if another damages are slapped on the NPP MP.
Reading portions of the proceedings, Kelvin said Kennedy Agyapong told the court even though he did not bring any evidence relating to the allegations he made, the plentiff did not produce any evidence either to deny the allegation.
According to Kennedy, the journalist benefited from documentaries he did hence his allegation. He said a lady in Metro TV stole a documentary belonging to the station for Anas when she didn’ t know Anas and the latter sold same to BBC. He however couldn’ t recall when the said documentary was aired on Metro TV as alleged. In addition he couldn’ t tell the name of the supposed lady who gave Anas the documentary.
It will be recalled that in 2018, the MP for Assin Central accused the investigative journalist of corruption. This was after the journalist had done a documentary in sports labeled No. 12 which indicated the then GFA President Kwasi Nyantakyi.
Kennedy Agyapong mounted a spirited defense as he aired a counter documentary dubbed ‘ Who Watches the Watchman’ on his Net 2 TV. He used that platform to accused the investigative journalist of corruption and called on his men to deal with him and his boys anytime any of them gets closer to the premises of Oman FM and Net2 TV.
It was after that statement that the key investigator of the Tiger Eye PI, Ahmed Suale was attacked and killed in cold blood.
Anas suide the marveric MP for defamation and the case has been pending in the high court as the Assin Central MP kept absenting from court. In the last hearing Hon. Agyapong’ s lawyer told the court the MP was so sick that he couldn’ t talk.
