Doctor, 54, Breaks Down In Tears After Seeing His Wife In An Accident

Doctor, 54, Breaks Down In Tears After Seeing His Wife In An Accident

Dr Joel Arthur, a surgical doctor at Suntreso Regional Hospital in Kumasi has not been able to hold back his tears after witnessing a sad incident this morning. The doctor who was on a night shift at the hospital, was allowed to take the day off after witnessing a deadly accident.

JA as Dr Joel Arthur is known and commonly referred to as, was at his cubicle attending to night patients when an ambulance drove in two accident victims; all female. The victims had been involved in an accident at Kwanfifi, a residential community on the Bibiani to Kumasi highway.

With his expertise in emergencies, JA was called to the theatre room at 2:40 AM to attend to the victims, but the experienced doctor could not stand the sight of the accident victims and wept bitterly after seeing the victims. Nobody could understand why JA was crying out loud until the emergency unit in-charge, Dr Bernard Brefourd was called to the scene.

Dr Bernard Brefourd, after seeing the victims, lead JA out of the emergency unit and assigned different doctors to the theatre to attend to the accident victims. Dr Bernard Brefourd in explanation of his colleague refusing to attend to the accident victims explained that, JA could not hold back his tears because, the victims of the accident, were his wife and daughter, Dr Bernard Brefourd said.

Dr Joel Arthur had taken a night shift last night but had no knowledge his wife and daughter was going to be on his list of people to save, and broke down in tears when he saw them at the theatre this morning. The wife and daughter of Dr Joel Arthur (JA), had been involved in a deadly accident this morning when they were returning from Bibiani to Kumasi.

The cause of the accident hasn’t been examined but critics believe overspeeding may have been the cause of the accident. Abigail, the 15-year-old daughter of JA, is now unconscious and in critical condition. She was presumed dead upon arrival to the hospital but miraculously came back to life after electric impulse machines were administered to her.

We thought she was dead and tried using a defibrillator on her and she miraculously came back to life after six shocks. Defibrillation is not something new, but a way of administering electric shocks to the heart in a manner to reset the normal heartbeat in patients who are experiencing a cardiac arrest or have had a heart attack, Dr Benard Brefourd explained.

Both patients (Abigail and her mother) are on life support and medical officers hope they will pull through successfully. Dr Joel Arthur is still at the hospital surrounded by friends and loved ones as his wife and child fight to live.
