Archaeologist finally solved the puzzle of the biblical calamity in Sodom and Gomorrah. As per biblical scholars, the two adulterous towns were attacked by fire that burned with sulpher, which was sent by God as punishment for the residents’ unpleasant and obstinate and disposition .
A paper published in The international journal Scientific Reports, on the other hand, indicated that what happened at Tall Al Hammam (or Tell el-Hammam), which experts have identified as the Biblical Sodom, was triggered by an airburst produced by a space rock that detonated over the city. After fifteen years of arduous excavation, findings have lately surfaced as a large number of discovered artefacts have been thoroughly analyzed by specialists in the United States, Canada, and the Czech Republic.
Another five-foot coating of charcoal, ash, melted bricks, and pottery was discovered. Using the Online Impact Calculator, a technology that allows researchers to estimate the many details of a cosmic impact event based on known impact events and nuclear detonations, the scientists concluded that the culprit at Sodom was a small asteroid similar to the one that exploded over the city in 1908, knocking down 80 million trees in Tunguska, Russia. The same asteroids are thought to have caused the extinction of dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
During the investigation, the team discovered that for hard things like bricks to melt, the airburst may have produced extreme heat of up to 2000 degrees Celsius, and because there was no technology at the time that could produce that amount of heat, researchers began to hunt for natural answers.
According to the scientists, the heat was so intense that even quartz, one of the toughest crystals, was stunned. “We shocked quartz from this stratum,” said James Kenneth, professor emeritus of earth science at UC Santa Barbara, “which suggests there were huge forces involved in shocking quartz.” One of the hardest minerals is quartz.”
