In a very tragic development, an entire family was hit by a car while attending an all-night prayer at a local church. The vehicle driver is suspected of being drunk when he lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road and ploughed into the hapless family.
The freak accident occurred on Saturday night along the High Glen Road in the capital. 47-year-old Molver Chigwada was attending the all-night prayer together with his wife, Loveness Chigwada, 42, and son Ben Chigwada, 5, when the driver lost control of his vehicle.
Unfortunately, for the Chigwada family, the vehicle with registration number ABV 5164 came directly at them and hit all three of them. No other church members were hit by the car.
After the freak accident, all three Chigwada family members were ferried to the hospital for medical attention. Ben and his mother, Loveness, were treated and discharged from the hospital. However, Molver, who suffered the worst injuries from the accident, is battling for his life in the Intensive care unit at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
The spokesperson for the family, Walter Tinashe Chigwada, told H-Metro,
“The mishap happened when the three were among worshippers at a church along High Glen Road.
“It is disturbing to learn that our relatives were the only ones hit, and the driver was reported to have been drunk.”
The police said they are still investigating the accident. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza said,
“Police are investigating a road traffic accident which took place in Marimba where three people got injured.”
