Michael, Uriyah, Sampson and Albert, the owners of MUSA Funeral home have gotten themselves into trouble as pending lawsuit knocks at their doors for issuing a wrong body to a family for burial. The body of Alfred Dadu Mireku, 49, was given to the Biretuo family of Ofonase for burial this morning after the mortuary attendant failed to do due diligence and proper checks.
Alfred Dadu Mireku, a chartered accountant in Cambodia, died on the 22 of March 2021 in Battambang City and was flown to Ghana on the 27 of November 2021. Alfred’s body was sent to the MUSA funeral home on the same day of arrival for safekeeping after the family had completed all the paper works.
Alfred scheduled for burial in Ejisu on 22 January 2022, was mistaken for one Adonteng Peter, who was scheduled for burial today at Ofonase. Peter’s family, the Biretuo clan of Ofonase, a community town within the Ejisu municipal, was wrongly handed the body of Alfred Dadu Mireku when they went to the mortuary department of MUSA funeral homes to claim the body of Peter Adonteng for burial.
The family of Peter had in a rush, confirmed the body they were given at the mortuary after they had handed over their receipt for the body of Peter. The family became aware they had been given a wrongful body when Peter was laid in state for friends and loved ones to pay their last respect this morning.
Kofi Adonteng, the elder brother of Peter, Adonteng, called MUSA funeral homes over the huge differences of the body they were getting ready to bury, and that was when, a team from MUSA funeral homes were sent to confiscate the body after it was confirmed, the body of Peter Adonteng had been changed with that of Alfred Dadu Mireku.
The Biretuo family of Peter Adonteng had shown no interest in holding MUSA mortuary attendants responsible and called the situation a mistake, but the family of Alfred has promised to take legal actions on what they consider a disgrace to their family, the deceased and a breach of contract.
We gave them a body, paid all the money involved and required they give us a professional service, so what happened to that, to the extent of interchanging our relative with that of someone else. They have breached the agreement between us and their organization, Op. Morris Mireku, a relative to Alfred said in anger.
We won’t forgive and forget anything, it was a total reckless effort and we will make sure they pay dearly for it. How can you disrespect a deceased person to the point of giving him to a different family, for what reason? You have disgraced us and we will take legal actions Op. Morris Mireku added in anger when he visited the mortuary to confirm the body of Alfred.
MUSA Funeral homes are preparing to have the issue settled with compensations but from all indications, their compensation offer was not to the demand of what Alfred’s family had hoped and rejected the offer this afternoon.
If nothing happens, Alfred’s family may head to the Kumasi High Court on Monday to sue MUSA Funeral homes for what they seem as disrespect to their family and their deceased relative.
