The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a young man who is suspected to have robbed and raped his victim on July 13, 2021 at Kakasunaka Number, near Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.
According to press statement dated November 9, 2021 and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kwesi Ofori, Director-General, Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, the suspect, Dordzi Dzidefo has been on the run since July this year after committing the allege crimes.
The police statement narrating the incidents, noted that the suspect is a motorbike operator and was said to have been hired by his unnamed victim to transport her from her area, Kakasunaka Number 1 to Gulf City near Ashaiman at a fee.
On their return from the journey to Gulf City, suspect Dzidefo explained to the victim that there was the need to use a different route to avoid been stopped by some police men at a police snap check point. The victim reportedly agreed, paving way for the suspect to ride in a different direction to the one they used earlier. He is reported to have during the trip stopped at a point where he ordered the victim to get down from his motorbike.
He allegedly robbed her at knife point after which he raped her and later fled the scene to avoid arrest. The police statement disclosed that further investigation into the allege robbery and rape incidents, police detected that Dzidofo had withdrawn an amount of Two Hundred and Forty-Seven Ghana Cedis (GH¢247.00) from the victim’s MTN mobile wallet.
Continuing, the police explained that he was arrested on November 1, 2021 from his hideout at Kakasunaka Number 1 through a sustained intelligence-led operation led by the Tema Regional Police Commander.
The suspect, according to the police has been arraigned at a law court and holistic investigations are currently ongoing to establish other crime he the suspect might have committed and his possible accomplices in such crimes.
Concluding, the statement commended the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II and his personnel for the success of this operation. “Once again, we are grateful to the public for the continued support. We want to give the assurance that criminals can run but cannot hide forever,” the statement noted.
