A Lecturer and an Educationist with Gambaga College of Education, Mathhew Nyaba says unnecessary political interferences in the educational system is the cause of the falling standard of education at all levels in the country.
He said if the trend continued, it would do more damage to the country and therefore called on politicians in the country, to stop playing politics with the educational system.
His comments come after the Vice President Dr. Bawumia who was speaking at the 60th anniversary speech and prize giving day of Navrongo Senior High School said the government has embarked on over 3,00 various educational infrastructure projects including dormitories, classrooms among others.
Speaking on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem with Ohene Addo, Mr. Nyaba stated that “Ghana is far behind quality education” and has called on the government to prioritize education and push more resources into it.
“The Education sector is faced with various national challenges which include low quality of education, indiscipline, politics, lack of infrastructure, unstable curriculum and calendar, unwillingness to study education, poor funding and poor governance of education. Politics is drawing education back in the country,” he said
He added that while education is the top priority of human development index, the experience in Ghana is far from reality, pointing out that challenges are inevitable in human society.
“In future we should de-link party politics from national development plans, especially educational plans. If there were consensus on the direction and for that matter the duration of senior high school education, all these issues about a party not making enough provision would not have arisen,” he said.
