Ampadu Vida, the elder sister of Lydia Ampadu has poisoned her sister’s children to death after a slight misunderstanding grew between the two on Friday night. Vida, 30, knowing well her younger sister was not there, prepared milo with hot water and milk, and served the hungry children with the tea and bread. The children; Ataa Senior and Ataa Junior, all died three hours after taking the food their auntie had served them.
Speaking to the Mankranso Police, Elder Ampadu, a Pentecost elder and the father of Lydia and Vida Ampadu, argued that it was the devil’s work and if it wasn’t, Vida, the elder one, wouldn’t have poisoned the twins knowing well they are her children too. The devil is in my house, and that is the only thing to explain this, the grandfather of the twins cried.
Elder Ampadu, the grandfather of Ataa Senior and Ataa Junior, called their mother Lydia Ampadu in 2018 to relocate back to his house after things became hard for Lydia in 2018. Lydia living Jamestown in Accra at the time, could barely take care of herself and her twins and that made the father call her back home. Elder Ampadu did so because of his reputation; I didn’t want anyone seeing my daughter in Accra and saying I have abandoned her into hardship, so I told her to come home.
It is not everyone who was born to leave her father’s side to hassle. I called her back so my enemies won’t use her to insult me of not taking care of my children and grandchildren, the elder stated. Elder Ampadu, knowing well of his daughter Lydia’s hassles, brought her home from Accra to Mankranso to live and farm with the family. The Elder gave over half an acre of cocoa farms to Lydia to farm and take care of herself, not knowing the actions of the father, Elder Ampadu towards Lydia had turned into hatred from Vida.
Vida in a slight misunderstanding on Friday evening blamed her father for always supporting her younger sister over her. Even if I should go out, my father will be mad at me for going out without being married but my younger sister had a baby out of wedlock and never was my father angry about it. He never liked me and it was all shown after my mother’s death, Vida said in her defence.
Vida with the sadness in her, called her younger sister’s children on Saturday evening, around 5, and served them with a poisoned tea and bread after the children complained of not eating the entire afternoon. Lydia, the mother of the twins, had gone to the farm to get some stock when Vida used the opportunity to poison the children over her Friday night argument with her sister and father.
The children died after 30 minutes of taking the food. Elder Ampadu in shock, could not come to terms with Vida’s actions and blamed the devil for the accident. Vida cannot do this without an external force pulling her. She is a good woman and I have been praying for her to get a good man. She can not do this; she gave them tea and bread.
She even brought some of the tea to me to drink. This is the work of the devil, my daughter is not evil. The devil has finally won my home, he has won my children’s heart, the elder cried as he narrated the situation to the Mankranso police yesterday evening.
Vida will be taken to court on Monday morning to face her crimes. Food testing hasn’t been done on the residue yet, but Vida confessed to poisoning the children last night when she was arrested by the police.
