I’m Sure Joana Krah Cannot Be In Jail For Six Years And Survive – Stephen Amoah Boldly Declares

The impunity of fake kidnappings in Ghana is on the increase, but the six years jail sentence handed to Joana Krah from the Western Region for faking her kidnapping will go a long way to deter other people who might be harboring such intent.

The Member of Parliament for the Nhyiaso constituency, Stephen Amoah, has revealed that he is not sure that Joana Krah can survive her six years jail term.

According to Stephen Amoah, he believes the court should have found out whether the mental intent of the woman was an illustration of implied malice or expressed malice because if it is an expressed malice, it will mean that she premeditated her kidnapping.

Stephen Amoah indicated that he cannot say the sentencing of the woman is high or low because he’s not a lawyer, but what he can say is that for a woman such as her to be given six years prison sentence, it is too harsh.

“We don’t pass sentences to destroy people. I’m not saying they are wrong, it’s not my field. I’m a finance person, but let’s ask ourselves, are we saying that somebody has to be given a punishment just to destroy the person or we are doing that to ensure that the person is corrected, reformed, and also to deter others from doing same?”

Stephen Amoah said that the court needs to do something about the sentencing of the woman. He believes it can be reviewed to bring down her sentence, and even six months should be enough. Although he is not saying it should be six months, he believes the six years is too much.

“I’m sure this woman cannot be in jail for six years and survive. So, let’s look at it.”

Stephen Amoah asked what at all the woman had done to warrant a jail term of six years? He begged for her sentence to be reduced.
