The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) has indicated that starting December 1, 2021, its outfit will stop paying salary to public employees without Ghana Card.
According to a statement obtained by PLAN B FM, the action is part of the central government’s attempts to provide public sector employees and retirees with quick, secure, and validated payroll services.
“This is part of a government commitment to provide government employees and pensioners with fast, secure, and validated payroll services while lowering the possibility of underserving payments or claims,” the Controller said.
According to the Accountant General, the government is working with the National Identification Authority (NIA) to create a unified database that will allow for biometric and unique identification of all PAYE employees.
It further added that all public sector workers on the government payroll effective December 1, this year who have not registered with the National Identification Authority (NIA) will not be paid their monthly salary.
