The circumstances surrounding the death of Constable Ernest Newtown Dwamena of the Savannah Regional Police Operations Department are being investigated by the police.
Constable Dwamena is believed to have been killed instantly when a truck ran over him.
The terrible incident occurred during official duty at Buipe in the Savannah Region on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
According to a police statement the truck driver is suspected of losing control of his vehicle and colliding with Constable Ernest Dwamena, killing him on the spot.
“Like other police officers, Ernest said his goodbyes to his family and went to work, intending to see them after work, but owing to the nature of our work, he died too soon”, the statement read.
His name, like those of other departed comrades, will be carved in gold on our hearts, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the Savannah Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Ebenezer Larbi, paid a visit to Ernest’s family in Kintampo, Bono East Region, to express their condolences.
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Ag. Inspector General of Police (IGP), has called the parents to express his condolences on behalf of the Police Administration.
