“We’re Not Going…Unless You ‘Uproot’ Us With Excavator” -Ash Reg Minister Dared

“We’re Not Going…Unless You ‘Uproot’ Us With Excavator” -Ash Reg Minister Dared

Traders of Kumasi Central market have announced that nothing can compel them to vacate their current place of trade popular called “Bode” to make way for the redevelopment of the area.

They have also sent a strong verbal notice to the Ashanti regional minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah, insofar daring him to excavate them (traders) with his demolishing machinery come Sunday 12th September 2021 since they are not ready to leave the site.

Highly peeved market women explained at a press briefing held on Thursday 9th September 2021 in Kumasi that the one week evacuation notice given by the minister ending on Sunday 12th September 2021 is too short and that authorities have not provided an alternative market area for their relocation.

A trader by name Maame Ataa disclosed that the Regional Minister and city authorities never engaged them in any dialogue on the one week eviction notice.

“We only woke up, hearing reports on the airwaves that the Regional Minister has issued notice that all traders in this area must pack their bags and baggage from “Bode” to make way for the redevelopment of the market”.

“If they give us a place in the likes of race course, we shall leave but if they have no place for us, they should forget it!”
