A Coup Is Not A Panacea For Corruption – Security Analyst

A Coup Is Not A Panacea For Corruption – Security Analyst
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Security Analyst, Lord Nana Appiah says military coups will not solved African country’s deep-seated political problems.

His comments follow last Sunday’s military takeover in Guinea and the subsequent arrest of incumbent President, Alpha Conde.

“Coup d’état is not a panacea for corruption, when it comes to military rule, there is no accountability.  If neighboring nations and global powers do not demand a democratic transition, it could lead to greater instability across Africa. Sunday’s arrest of Guinea’s President Alpha Conde by mutinous soldiers may have been the kind of climax many of the president’s opponents hoped for, but it will not solve the country’s problems. Guinea’s West African neighbors, and the entire international community, know that a leadership crisis could create more turmoil and destabilize the entire region,” he said on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ with Ohene Addo.

He also added that, African Leaders need to be careful with the kind of policies they formulate when they assume power, which he thinks could spell doom for the peaceful co-existence in their countries if it’s  not properly done.

The coup in Guinea was the fourth attempted coup in West Africa in the last year with two military takeovers in Mali and a failed coup in Niger.

The African Union and ECOWAS have condemned the coup and called for a return to civilian rule as they do always when such events happen.
