A Political Analyst, Clement Adu Acheampong, has lauded the National Democratic Congress (NDC), proposed electoral reforms to be made in Ghana’s electoral system.
According to him, these proposed reforms are not new to the political space of Ghana, but he indicated it is a step in the right direction.
The NDC, after a series of consultations, proposed some electoral reforms, which they advised are geared towards restoring the credibility and integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.
However, after delivering the document to the EC headquarters in Accra, the EC directed the opposition party to discuss its proposal before the Interparty Advisory Committee (IPAC).
Speaking on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ with Ohene Addo, Mr. Clement Adu Acheampong said it is vital to welcome any idea that will improve the electoral process, not necessarily from a particular group of people.
“Since we returned to multiparty politics and constitutional government under the Fourth Republic in 1993, we’ve done a lot of amendments in our electoral system. The proposal by the NDC is nothing new, but I believe there are some positives in there which the EC should look at and table it where it wants to table it,” he said.
Therefore, the Political Analyst suggested that the Electoral Commission invites other people to assist in assessing the proposal and discuss it, not necessarily IPAC, as he believes there are some positives in the NDC proposal.
