Economist, Dr. Adu Sarkodie has attributed Ghana’s stunted growth and development to poor leadership, slavery and corruption.
President Akufo-Addo in his Founders’ Day message said it is about time Ghana free itself from economic slavery. He indicated that the nation must move from economic hardships due to certain patterns that were designed years ago by our forbearers of the nation.
Reacting to the President’s message on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ with Ohene Addo, Dr. Sarkodie said that the path chosen by all past governments have been to compromise our independence by making our country perpetually hooked to western donor aid, because of bad leadership and corruption.
“We need to curb corruption in this country; our leaders are wallowing in a pool of gargantuan corruption to amass wealth for themselves and their families. We have a debt crisis on our hands because we borrow a lot. We are our own enemies, corruption and bad leadership is killing us. Our tax system is leaking profusely because of corruption,” he indicated.
Dr. Sarkodie noted that, disparities in economic development could not be said without concluding on colonization. He said colonization has affected us negatively as a country.
“I have read a lot of books on colonization and slavery which has had dire consequences on Africa. Our colonial history has affected our development; colonialist exploited our physical, human, and economic resources to benefit their country with little consideration for the long-term impacts on us,” he stated.
In conclusion, he called for aggressive measures to deal with the numerous economic challenges the country is saddled with. He said the road to industrialization is for the government to revamp the Agricultural sector to create jobs for the teeming youth.
