First & Second Ladies’ Salaries: Samira Bawumia Rejects Salary; Will Refund Allowances From 2017

A communique by the office of the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia has announced that she is joining the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo in rejecting the proposed salaries for spouses of the head of state and his vice.

Tema base Plan-B FM has sighted a communique from the office of the Second Lady dated today, Tuesday, July 13, 2021 and signed by Kwame Twum, Esq, Senior Aide to the Second Lady, indicating the Second Lady’s preparedness to refund all allowances paid from 2017.

“The Second Lady, H. E Samira Bawumia in consultation with H. E Vice President, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, will refund all allowances paid to since 2017 and will not accept any monies allocated to pursuant to the recommendations of the Prof. Yaa Ntimoa-Baidu led committee, as approved by Parliament on 6th January, 2021,” part of the communique reads.

The communique further pointed that the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia will continue to be committed to the service of the nation; to deliver humanitarian interventions and initiatives in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment.

The announcement from the office of the Second Lady comes on the back of similar gesture by the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo earlier through a communique dated July 12, 2021 and signed by Korkor Bleboo, Director of Communications at the office of the First Lady.
